Africa Missions Trip

Missions Trip

January 2018
Lastly, I went on a life-changing missions trip to Kenya, Africa, with my family through the nonprofit organization Soles for Jesus. Their mission is to provide shoes to individuals in need across Africa—especially in remote villages where access to basic necessities like footwear is often limited. This trip had a huge impact on my life and my desire to serve others, which is why I chose to present it as a meaningful personal project.
The problem we were addressing was the lack of access to proper footwear in rural villages. Without shoes, many children are unable to attend school, and adults struggle to find work due to health risks and diseases they acquire through the open sores on their feet. During our time in Kenya, we visited several remote villages and distributed shoes to families and orphans. Each pair of shoes was also shared with God's love.
I participated in every part of the process: organizing shoes, measuring and washing feet, showing love and dignity while getting to know the children and families. I will never forget the joy and gratitude on their faces. One of the most impactful moments for me was seeing how something as simple as a pair of shoes transformed someone’s ability to go to work or school, and simply walk without pain or infection. It was a humbling reminder of how much we take for granted.
The biggest challenge was witnessing the level of poverty and hardship many of the villagers faced. It opened my eyes in a way that was deeper than what I’ve read in a textbook or heard in a classroom. Along with the challenges that I saw came a deep sense of purpose and I knew that I wanted to do more. This trip not only strengthened my faith but also ignited a passion for service and global missions. It was the most eye-opening experience of my life, and I’m already looking forward to the opportunity to go back and serve again.
